Disabled Parking Spots Abused?

Right, is it just me or do a lot of people with £20k+ cars, like BMWs, Mercs and 4x4s plop down on a disabled car space with no Disbabled permit on their front screen? If you agree, how do you combat the fraud? My gf's gran is heavily disabled from a stroke and trying to find a spot to ease her mobility due to these f*ckwits, makes things very tricky. Is the type of car that someone drives directly associated with assholeness?

1. i totally agree and it fuc#s me right off,complain to the store or shopping centre who own the car park
2. It is very annoying,,they should respect the parking bays and have a little more thought for others instead of being wrapped up in thier own pretentious worlds,,,
3. Most of the illegal parking in these bays are committed by people diving BMW's and Mercedes etc. They abuse the system but there is nothing you can do or any organisation you can complain to. Community Police officers should patrol these spaces frequently and impose heavy fines on the offenders.
4. Your right they do tend to do that a lot, it's also annoying the way they cut in front of other drivers. Never really understood why they do that, although they generally tend to be nice people on the whole.
5. In the USA the cops ticket cars without tags or plates for the disabled.They are $300.00 tickets and the same people do not use those spots again.Find out if you have a policy like that by you.
6. I have a blue badge and I can never find a space to park. it really annoys me. I can walk, but not far so I just park as near as I can. what really annoys me is these spaces are bigger so disabled people can get in and out of chairs etc, not big 4x4's to park in.
7. yeah its frustrating... normally people driving cars like this justify themselves by claiming to be too busy to find a normal space - they are busy, they are earning so they can afford flash motors. complain to the store - good to see the drivers red faced when they are asked to move it over the instore tannoy system
8. I'm thirty five and just been given a badge myself and the ignorance from some people beats me!!! Your right I had this woman in a merc who just pulled up into a spot got out of her car like lady of the manor carrying her designer bag, So I asked her where her badge was - she ignored me so I went into my local Morrison's and they put her registration over the store tannoy and told her to move her car. I stood laughing at her especially when it started to pour down with heavy rain!! But there are lots of selfish people out there and until they need one of those spaces we will have to carry on and watch this people abuse the facility that people need.. Its also the same with parent parking bays!!!

Here in the states, we have more of an issue of peeps not being disabled and taking over parking spaces or not having proof of their disability, such as a disabled license plate or disabled tag that they place hanging from the rearview mirror inside their vehicles. This is more of our problem more so than the vehicles they drive. They give out hefty fines if caught doing so. In some places they also have parking spaces for Pregnant women as well. Though I feel your frustration as I've felt like keying some of these peeps cars... IN case u don't know what that is, it's when u take ur key and scrape a long line into the person's vehicle causing a deep defect where they have to pay out to repair it. I don't advice that , I'm just venting but, other than what the other post mentioned informing the store/parking lot owner ,not sure what u could do other than taking their license plate # down and reporting it! 11. Yes, makes me sick. The 4x4 drivers in particular seem to park where the hell they like, as long as they put their hazard warning lights on. Up on the pavement, on crossings, you name it, I've seen them parked in every numb spot you can think of.
12. I now have a phone that sends email. So I take a photo of the car with license plate and sign in view with my cell phone. Send it off to the police as evidence. I KNOW they are giving people tickets because of the photos I send. TRY IT!
13. I haven't noticed any expensive cars in the handicapped spots (but then again I live in a poor town) but yes, those disabled badges are very abused.
14. Probably. Handicapped spaces are wider and therefore they park there to keep their "babies" safe from damage. Sometimes these people are too lazy to walk or feel they shouldn't have to, they are so important ya know. I'm not saying its right, it just is. Take the license plate number into the store and report them. The police will be called and they will be fined. Some people are so insensitive and self-centered.
15. I totally agree. If I see someone parking in the disabled spot that is clearly flaunting the disabled parking only bays signs I will tell them that they should park elsewhere. Usually this doesn't make a difference and they carry on regardless. How selfish can you get? The other thing I notice is the same people parking on yellow lines right outside shops so that when you cross the road there is no visibility for oncoming cars to see pedestrians.

18. In response to last question you asked, No, I don't think that the type of car someone drives is directly associated with assholeness. I drive an Infinity FX and it's a high dig car and I would not DARE park in a handicapped only parking space. I had a permit for 6 months due to foot surgery, but that was okay. I was allowed that one. Here in the US, I saw a show about college kids and others going to the doctor with fake problems and he issues a handicapped parking permit! Now THAT is SO wrong in so many ways! How can they live with themselves? How can anyone who takes from the less abled? it's sick.

21. OK I live in the US. I'm disabled and yes it irritates the $hi+ outta me to see cars there with no permit. However; here disability has nothing to do with money or expensive cars. If the BMW is being parked by a handicapped person with a permit--no problem.
22. Where I live in the U.S.A. we have a courtesy patrol departments made up of volunteer retired police and others from the community. It's their job to ride around and check for people without proper parking permits. Everyone with a proper permit can call them when they see a car that doesn't belong in a spot and the courtesy patrol comes out to issue them a sizable ticket. In some counties they even allow you to take a picture of the car with your phone and send it in and they will get the ticket. If your community doesn't have a courtesy patrol, it would be a great grass roots project to try to get one going.
23. When I see someone without a placard I take down their plate number and report it to the police office. They will come out and write them a ticket. I have done it multiple times, and as long as you have thick skin and don't mind assholes yelling at you as you write their tag down it works very well. I don't imagine that the type of car is directly related to the attitude and asshole-ishness.

25. some people have an exaggerated sense of entitlement. i have parked next to them so close that there is no way they can get in car. they have to either wait for me, or report it, and then they are busted.
