Good Parking Spaces

Knocking from under car when turning into parking spots?

I bought an ’06 Malibu Maxx about a week and a half ago, and I’ve started to notice a sort of knocking sound (can sort of feel it too) from under the car when I’m doing the following: turning into a parking spot, starting to move from a complete stop, or turning corners when my foot is on the brake pedal. Thing is, it doesn’t knock every single time I do these things; it’s an intermittent issue. My husband has suggested that it may be a joint, ball bearing. I know the car has been mostly sitting on a sales lot since August so it went seven months without being driven regularly. Could that be responsible for this noise? The dealership is going to try to fix it, but I’d like an idea of what the problem could be before they tell me what it is.

  1. Husband is right. CV joint if it happens when turning.
  2. Without hearing it myself, it sounds like a CV joint issue. It happens on all front wheel drive cars eventually when the protective boot around them tears over time. They are kind of costly (a few hundred bucks) depending on the car. Check the insides of your front wheels, a lot of grease there is a dead giveaway.
  3. If the mileage is over 100,000 it might be a wheel bearing. More than likely its front suspension like a worn upper ball joint or even a loose strut. If you did a check on the title that should tell you if it was ever in an accident. I'm always hesitent when buying off a lot, especially one that's not affiliated with a new car dealership.
  4. CV Joint. And get it fixed ASAP. Its worse to keep driving on it even if you turn without the knocking noise. Trust me, I didn't and I had to replace a lot more than just CV Joints.
  5. there is a service bulletin for that issue your Chevy dealer should fix you right up the car is safe to drive it is just a noise
