can i get this car towed? what can i do to keep these cars from parking in 2 spots?
i live in an area full of college students who rent apartments. therefore, we do not have full property over the parking. everyone has to park on the sidewalks and it can be very hard at times to find a spot. theres these two cars who save spots by taking up two parallel parking spots on purpose whenever one car leaves. Now, they've been doing this for months now and frankly, i'm frustrated! i'd like to scare these girls by leaving a note saying if they do this again, i'll get it towed. but is it possible to even get it towed if the cars are parked that way? i've parked right behind the 1/2 of a spot they leave at times to annoy them but it doesnt stop them from doing so. i've even thought about pushing the cars up in the right spot yet i havent had the right moment to. what can i do to really scare them? can i call the police to give them a ticket and tow it if it really gets to that point? would they even give them a ticket for that?

- Double parking is certainly a ticketable offense. I would leave them a note saying that you are constantly frustrated by this behavior. And if they continue to double park, you could call the police and they will probably send a parking attendant over to give them a ticket. Hope that helps!
- I doubt that you can get the cars towed. Get a friend with a car and pin in the car front and back with yours and your friend's car, so their car cannot move. Maybe that would work? Bring this to the attention of the property owners, they are the only ones who can legally do anything about it.
- The police cannot do anything if it is a private parking lot-owned by the college or the apartment complex. If it is CITY owned, then the police can do something. What' you'd have to do is call them to come see it when they are 'saving' spaces and probably take pictures. IF the lot is owned by the apartment building, then take pictures and bring them to the propery manager.
- I don't think you could get them towed for something like that, sorry. You might be able to file some kind of complaint with the police department and have someone come by and talk to them about it. Especially if you can get some other people together from your street to come with you. I mean, the street is public property, and the police may be able to give them a ticket, though I doubt it would be for more than $100 (which would probably break the bank for an average college student and scare them, I guess)... That is very rude of them to do though. The street is for EVERYONE to park on, and if they lose their spot, so be it. They shouldn't need their friends to "save" their spots... I understand your frustration though. I live on campus and almost all our parking is on the public streets, and I swear some people park taking up too much room on purpose to "save" spots. It's unfair to everyone else. Parking should be a first come, first serve situation. If the police can't/won't do anything about it, I suggest writing a [polite!] note and leaving it on one of their cars when they won't see you do it (or they could retaliate or keep doing it just to spite you personally). I wouldn't recommend trying to pin them in or move their cars. Some people get very pissy when people touch their cars, and you also don't want to damage their car and have to pay for it, or have them damage your car by accident (or on purpose) because they can't get out of the spot. If you write a note, make sure you're careful how you word it and actually try to sound like a concerned neighbor, you don't want to just sound like a grumpy person with a grudge or anything, or they won't listen. Good luck!
- I would think it could get a ticket and possibly towed.
