Good Parking Spaces

Who do I report a violation in the number of handicap parking spots a public elementary school has?

I have contacted the principal and the board of education and nothing has been done to rectify the situation. We went from 2 handicap spots down to 1 when the school district enlarged the parking lot. It has been months since I spoke to the board office and nothing was done. Houghton Lake Community Schools, Houghton Lake, MI . They are suppose to have minimum 1 handicap spot per 25 parking spots. They have alot more than 50 parking spots right now.

  1. Contact the School District. Take pictures.
  2. Give up.. I have tried it and it did not work. At the school where I go, 98% of all vehicles park IN The handicapped zone are using tags from their mother/relatives, etc. They, themselves actually DANCE to where they are going after leaving the vehicle.. It is NOT fair but that is just another fallacy of the stupid system.
  3. I would suggest that you threaten the school board to act. School Boards don't listen to individuals unless they know that something might come out of it. For example, i would contact them for a final time and tell them of the situation and warn them that if they do not comply that you will contact your local ACLU office. Then if nothing happens, contact the ACLU office in your state and ask where do go. They will know where to send you to get it done, and they won't make you go through all of the red tape that schools do.
  4. The town. If that's indeed the law, then the town can force them to comply or face tax repurcussions.
  5. Report it to the city. That has to be some kind of code violation.
  6. I went right in to the office, and stated that having 2 was ridiculous, and I told them I have a very bad disability, PPH, and said I can not do this everyday, to get my child and fight w/ppl that either use a relatives placard, or not even have a disability... I am only 40, and have actually gotten into an argument as I pulled in to a spot, had my placard in full view, and got out, locked it and another person asked me if I even have a disability... meanwhile, I have a central line, keeping me alive, and can not walk too far without getting too much out of breath. And if I get sick, even if the spot was in front of the school its too much.. Raise as much hell as you can...someone somewhere will eventually look at the situation. A few weeks later they raised their number of spots by 4...
  7. As much as I despise the ACLU they are useful for a few things. The Ferndale, Michigan post office did not have handicapped access about 20 years ago and my dad was disabled. He contacted the ACLU and before long that post office wound up building a ramp!
