A lot of people back into parking spots. Is there a good reason for this, or, do they do it just to annoy me?
I was referring to regular parking spots, not parallel. It annoys me because everyone else has to wait while people do complicated Y-turns.

- so when they are ready to leave they can pull straight out and not do a Paris Hilton.
- I do it because it makes it so much easier to get out of the parking space.
- they do it so it's easier to get out, plus apparently you have a better view on traffic that way... i.e. if you reverse in, you can see traffic around you. when you pull out, everything is more visible. BUT I DONT DO IT!
- I pull through whenever I can, its so much easier to be able to drive out.
- I do it all the time, it is better than pulling in head first. It is easier when leaving a parking space, and you can see if there are people walking in front of your car. I think it is safer.
- I back in so that when I leave it will be easier to leave and I can watch for people or things in front of me. WOW...looks like a lot of us are annoying you and we don't even know you that well !!
- If you are parallel parking, it is easier to back into the spot. 90 degree spots have no reason to back into the spot, just that it is easier to get out later
- they don't really back in. they just pull all of the way through when they enter a spsce if that space is empty.
- So they don't have to back out. I don't get it either, you're gonna have to back up sooner or later.
- What's wrong with backing into a parking space? I would definitely like to know. Why do they put reverse on your transmission of your car?
- Good reason. It is the right and lawful way to park. The trouble is with people like you who have no business having a driver's License. Have to be a woman .
- My friend does it because she can drive backwards better than she drives forward. True!! I've been with her at her ranch and she just drives her truck in reverse. Funny, scary stuff, but she does it well!
- And it annoys you why? It's easier and safer to pull out of the parking slot that way - you can see better.
- There back from enjoying their weekends away...and ready for work tomorrow....but they also do it to annoy you!
- I do it because it is easier to get out and I can see what is around me. (and to annoy you LOL)
- Well it's easier to get out of the parking space, but when you have things you want to put in the trunk parking with the trunk at the front makes it easier to load!
- backing out of a parking space is more dangerous than backing in simply because the potential dangers are moving cars instead of parked cars. If you get annoyed by the way other people park, you should examine your life. If you think strangers are doing anything just to annoy you, you should look for a shrink and check for paranoia.
- It is done for safety. Ordinarily, when you back into a parking space, the vehicles around the space are not moving (the cars on either side, in a parking lot, or at the rear of the space you are backing into). When you pull out, into a lane that may have moving traffic in it, your visibility is greatly increased, reducing the risk of accident. Every time you back any vehicle, you should walk all the way around the rear of the vehicle to check for obstacles and/or hazards ("circle for safety").
- A quick get-away is the only positive that I can see.
- I back in whenever it is safe to do so. You should try it some time, just not when there are any cars around. It takes a little practice.
- looking at the previous answers it must be to annoy you;;''' The safest way to park is to reverse in and drive out
- No, they are not trying to annoy you. Sometimes the sun will be beating on the front of the car, and they are trying to avoid that. The other reason, is so that they can drive out easier, than having to back up, and doing that. As if that was such a big chore, right? I don't back in to my parking spaces, but some folks at my job do, just so the sun won't fade their precious dashboards. Ha Ha!
- I'm not sure why this annoys you, thought I would be curious to find out. I'm thinking that MAYBE YOU'RE JUST JELLOUS. Anyhow, it is much safer to back into your parking spot when you are able to since instead of backing up you will be pulling forward when you leave. This means that you will be able to see better where you are going and have less chance of hitting something. There is a new type of parking space that is being employed by many cities now. It is similar to angle-in parking and the parking manuver is somewhat like parallel parking. You must drive past the parking spot and then back into it at an angle. This parking spot is commonly used in locations where a bike lane would otherwise run right behind vehicles and make bicyclist much less visible
- It is easier to get out,They annoy me also when they back in and take up 2 or 4 parking spaces. Those are the ones that should pull through and stay between the lines and only take up one or two parking spots. The ones who don't park between the lines I park as close to them as I can to block their drivers side door and watch them try to get back in their car and give up and get in the passenger side and have to crawl over. In some states it is illegal to back in a parking space especially at a Motel or Hotel That way when the cops are looking for a fugitive they can see their license plate because some states don't have a rear plate.
- its easier to drive off. thats why fire trucks always back into the firestation...even the batcave turned the batmobile around!!
- I used to do it only with my 2001 Camaro SS. When the transmission was cold, it wouldn't go into reverse.
- Actually they do it to annoy me, because I know that most of them can't drive frontwards worth a flip.
