why no parking spaces in Sabah?
There they go again, throught KK and its suburbs, and build beautiful infrastructure, but never any parking areas. The newest example: the so-called one stop passport-visa etc facility near UMS, Sabah's very own 'Putrajaya'... simply no parking spaces! I mean, Malaysia has more than doubled the number of cars on its roads between 1996-2006. More than 14 million cars, but still they construct shopping malls and other infrastructure without adequate parking facilities. Is that a Malaysian problem, or just a Sabah problem? oh, thanks for the many answers, it is 'reassuring' to know other places do the same 'planning'! They are building the longest mall in Malaysia where I live – in Donggongon. There will be over 700 retail outlets, and they proudly announced that they will also ‘create’ ALMOST 900 parking lots. Of course, they are right now destroying Donggongon’s largest parking lot, some 1500 spaces but that is not advertised. The mega long mall is just next to our Tamu Ground, Sabah’s largest with over 900 registered vendors on a Thursday. Of course they all come by foot, buffalo or use public transport to ferry their merchandise around, like in the good olden days. And I suppose all employees of the mega long mall will also come by buffalo and let them graze peacefully behind the balai bomba while they work. Customers take public transport, of course… By the way, I used to cycle quite a lot in KK, one gets so many more things done but the problem is (another Malaysian Problem?) as a cyclist, and for that matter also as a pedestrian you are considered, by most motorists, to be somewhat below the value of a cockroach. Letak kreta siring pagar, duble parking ok lah… one thing I must leave Malaysian drivers: they never seem in a hurry (except when they see a pedestrian or a cyclist, of course), and virtually never honk except when they see an acquaintance on the road!

- ? ?????// cant help u on this
- It was the same when we drove to Miri so difficult to find parking, Bintulu also the same so yes I think it could well be bad planning by the town planners

- i been there last week in KK but i dont see this is a major problem. there are car parks in KK town and its not expensive. By the way there are not much car as in KL.
- no. its not only sabah problem. same problem here in kl. well, some certain areas. not the whole kl. Maybe u should drive a motorbike? i dunno. do they still have place for a motorbike? im pretty sure motorbike can park almost anywhere :-)
- My friend, is the same everywhere! in KL, PJ, Singapore, HK, Japan, Bangkok, Delhi, and etc.! Don't drive then. Write to the local government in Sabah to built LRT then. Or proposed to them to bring in RapidKK. Problem solve bah!
- hmmm.. never been to sabah...
- i lived there for like 5 years and im still go there every year.. sabah now is so much different.. a lot of new buildings.. kinda strange why theres no parking spaces.. i mean thats sabah's very own putrajaya doesnt have it own parking space? how sad.. but the putrajaya building looks nice
- Ever thought of public transport and walking around KK, its very small. Do your bit for the environment.
- I thk is Malaysia national disaaster when comes to parking issue not only in sabah, kl, one utama or even in front of the jln gasing ipoh chicken rice shop.... The cause of this prob is, car is far too affordable by all malaysian, inconvenient and unreliable of public transport and also uncomfortable, plus the gov nvr able to solve these problems after so many yrs...
- when i was in sabah for a business trip. i dont really realise there's a parking space problem.. -- having said that.. in filipines market it is quite diff. to find a parking space.. i think that is the only area having such problem.. why? because is a centre of attraction for tourist..
